Frequently Asked Questions
What kind of therapy do you offer?
I offer individual talk-therapy for adults 18 and older looking to make healthy changes in areas like sex and sexuality, gender identity, relational challenges, life transitions, depression and anxiety, ADHD, and more.
Do you see clients outside of Virginia?
Currently, I can see only clients who are physically located in Virginia. I look forward to a forthcoming interstate compact that will allow me to see clients in states whose legislatures have approved the compact.
Do you accept insurance? What if I don't have insurance or don't want to use it?
See my “Fees & Insurance” page or contact me for specifics.
What is your confidentiality policy?
With few exceptions, everything we discuss in session remains private and confidential. Exceptions include abuse of a child or elder, intent to harm or kill another person, an imminent risk of suicide, or a court order. Acts of self-harm remain confidential.
What if I need to cancel or reschedule?
I understand that life happens and ask that you give me 24 hours’ notice before cancelling or rescheduling. If there is a dire situation preventing you from attending, please just let me know as soon as it is safe to do so. Telehealth is an option if transportation to the office is the problem. More than one late cancellation or no-show may result in a fee, typically the full private-pay cost of a session.
What if we're not a good fit?
My hope for all people engaging in mental health therapy is that they feel safe and cared for—even if that means moving on to someone else! I just ask that you communicate your wish to end our working relationship and don’t ghost me.
